A little about myself. My life and hobbies

My Name is Karl-Erik Hallenius and I was born 1930 in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. I live now in Gothenburg
or Göteborg as the city is called in Swedish. Gothenburg is situated on the western coast of Sweden and is
the second largest city of Sweden next to Stockholm, the capital, on the east coast. Gothenburg has
a population of around 650,000 inhabitants.

Since my early youth I have always been very interested in electricity and especially electronics. I built
my own radio receivers and transmitters already during WW2 although radio transmitters were not
allowed at that time, let alone to use them. But I never allowed the transmitters "to go on the air" until
I got my licence as a shortwave amateur in 1950.

I performed many experiments in my room when I grew up. Most of them annoyed my Father
and scared my caring and loving Mother out of her wits. She looked upon them as very dangerous,
which indeed some of them were. My Mother loved me too much. (Well, my Father loved me too).

I studied at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg and soon, in my ignorance,
I thought I knew everything worthwhile about electronics, so instead I directed my interest towards
electric power engineering. I never regretted my choice and I graduated with Electric Machinery
as a main subject. However, my interest in Electronics was still there as a hobby. It is more easy
to play with some radio equipments in the cellar workshop than dealing with big generators or
transformers weighing a couple of hundred tons.

After my graduation I stayed at Chalmers in the department of "Electrical Machines" as a scientist
and teacher. I am retired since 1994.

In my youth, like most boys I was also fascinated by aeroplanes and flying so I built many
small models of fighter aircrafts. Nowadays my interest in flying and aeroplanes still persists
and I am building radio controlled aeroplane models. Flying them is a most exciting
experience. Will you get them down in one piece or will you have a heap of balsa sticks
on the ground. You will see some of the models on some of the pages to come. RC-flying
combines my interest in radio equipment as well as in flying and aeroplanes.
